How to Prepare an Artwork Listing
A guide to presenting artist, medium, support, dimensions, signature, edition, condition and known history in an artwork listing.
Start with type and medium
State whether the work is a painting, drawing, print, sculpture or art photograph, followed by the known medium such as oil, watercolour or screenprint.
Support artist information
Record the artist when the name is supported by a signature, document or reliable record. Keep an attribution or estimate distinct from confirmed authorship.
Record signature and edition separately
Describe signature location and legibility separately from edition number, total edition or artist's proof details. A visible signature alone does not establish authenticity.
Detail dimensions and condition
Separate work and frame dimensions. Show and describe surface loss, cracking, fading, stains, waves, tears, retouching or frame damage.
Present history and documents within their limits
If an exhibition, publication, gallery label, invoice or certificate exists, explain the detail it supports. Collectorium does not replace that evidence or automatically verify a seller statement.
